Framed Print of Colin Cowdray 1958 cricketer with wife Penelope at christening of son Christopher by Rev
Colin Cowdray 1958 cricketer with wife Penelope at christening of son Christopher by Rev David Shepherd at St Nicholas Church Chistlehurst Kent
Colin Cowdrey was an exceptional cricketer. In 1957 despite not being a regular in the England test side he put on one of the best batting performances in test match history. He came to the crease with his partner Peter May as England were well behind in their second innings. Their partnership of 411 saved England and was the highest ever partnership for England. In 1963 Cowdrey again faced the West Indies and had his arm broken by a Wes Hall delivery. Despite this he came out to bat at the end of the second innings. There were only two balls remaining and his partner David Allen managed to block both of them to prevent Cowdrey having to bat. In an ashes test in 1964 Cowdrey made his 5, 000th Test run during the fifth Test. the same match in which Fred Trueman took his 300th Test wicket. © Mirrorpix
