Willi Brandt and his wife at London Airport Date 31 / 10 / 62 The Lord

Willi Brandt and his wife at London Airport
Date 31/10/62
The Lord Mayor of Berlin, Willy Brandt pictured at London Airport with his wife in 1962. Whilst Lord Mayor, Brandt had to deal with the construction of the Berlin wall and proved himself an inspirational leader. As a leader, he was only partially eclipsed when he stood beside Kennedy both literally and politically as the US President gave his famous " Ich bin ein Berliner" speech in June 1963. He went on to lead his party to electoral victory and became Chancellor in 1969.
