Born at Trelleck, Wales, 18 May 1872, educated at Cambridge where he became a lecturer in 1895. Over the next 20 years, he published a host of texts on politics, philosophy and mathematics, most notable of which was Principa Mathematica'. He was also active in radical politics and, in 1907, stood unsuccessfuly as a Liberal MP in support of womens suffrage. In 1918, he was imprisoned for campaigns against the war, which lost him his Cambridge fellowship. He stood for Parliament again in 1922-3, this time for the Labour Party. An erstwhile supporter of appeasement, he came to support WW2. In 1945, his fellowship was restored. The H-Bomb tests in 1954 led him to found the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) and he was imprisoned again in 1961 for demonstrating. In his final years, through the Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation, he rallied academic opposition to US policy in Vietnam. He died in 1970

Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
