Mr Alick McKay, the husband of Muriel McKay who was kidnapped and murdered by the Hosein brothers. The brothers, Arthur and Nizamodeen, had run into financial diffiulties. That was until one day they were watching David Frost interviewing the media tycoon Rupert Murdoch on television. Murdoch had just bought the ailing Sun newspaper and the brothers hatched a plan to kidnap his wife and then ransom her. On the 29th of December 1969 they followed the Murdochs Rolls Royce back to the house at 20 Arthur St. When a woman got out of the car they grabbed her as she entered the house. The woman was Muriel McKay, wife of Alick McKay, Murdochs deputy. The McKays had borrowed the car whilst Murdoch was on holiday. The following morning Alick McKay received a ransom demand for £ 1 million from a man calling himself M3. Over the next few weeks the ransom notes continued to pour in, as well as a few letters from Muriel herself. The first attempt to drop off the ransom was disrupted by the far from covert presence of a large number of undercover policemen in the area. The second attempt also failed when a couple spotted the suitcases containing the ransom and went to fetch the local police. However, the Hosein brothers had made a foolish mistake. They kept driving past the drop-spot in a blue Volvo. A detective, DS Bland, noted the registration number of the car and the two men were tracked to Rooks Farm where further evidence of their involvement was discovered. Unfortunately Mrs McKay was not found. Infact, her body has never been recovered. The two men were sentenced at the Old Bailey in September 1970. They each received life sentences for murder, plus a total of 40 years between them for blackmail and kidnapping.
