Chilham Castle is a manor house and keep in the village of Chilham, between Ashford and Canterbury in the county of Kent, England
The Norman keep of the Castle, the oldest building in the village, dates from 1174
The Jacobean building, within sight of the "Old Castle", was completed in 1616 for Sir Dudley Digges on a hexagonal plan, with five angled ranges and the sixth left open.

This Blackburn Kangaroo biplane - a former WW1 bomber - which was purchased by explorer Captain Wilkins in 1919, later Sir Hubert Wilkins, to compete in an air race sponsored by the Australian Government.
A prize of £10,000 was being offered for the first All-Australian crew to fly from England to Australia. Piloted by Lieutenants Val Rendle and D R Williams, with Wilkins as navigator and Lieutenant Potts the engineer, the aircraft left Hounslow in West London on 21st November 1919 but suffered a serious oil leak on 8th December and returned to Suda Bay, Crete where the flight was abandoned.

These pictures were taken at the West Kesington coal dock where housewives and childern are seen every morning taking away coal. January 1951 P017814
