The Lord Mayor of Cardiff (Alderman James Hellyer - {pictured right}) drawing his Points ration book at the City Hall, Cardiff. Also in the picture is Sir Herbert Hilas and Mr Kenvyn Rees, (Food Executive Officer).
Rationing came in on 8th January 1940 when bacon, butter and sugar were rationed. Meat, tea, jam, biscuits, breakfast cereals, cheese, eggs, lard, milk, canned and dried fruit were rationed subsequently but not all at once. Rationing finally ended in 1954.

The score was 2-2 with Bobby Charlton and Nobby Stiles scoring for Manchester United. Jimmy Greaves scored both goals for Tottenham Hotspur

In 1201 King John granted a charter for the holding of a fair in Reach. It was originally to be held on Rogation Monday but has since been changed to the early May Bank Holiday. According to original custom, it is opened by the Mayor of Cambridge accompanied by the Aldermen in full regalia
