The Birdmen of Bognor marked the ninth anniversary of that momentous day when Bognor pier
The Birdmen of Bognor marked the ninth anniversary of that momentous day when Bognor pier first hosted its now-famous birdman event. Witches, imitation airplanes, hang glidermen, fools and flights in fancy dress paraded before holiday makers at the West Sussex report before leaping off the and of the pier. The idea in to fly as far as possible and first prize of £250 went to Mike Collia, 51, who flew 22 metres on his hang glider. The contest, watched by 10,000 people lining the sea front was organised by the local Lions club to raise money for charity. One witch with weight-trouble but great style, heads for the sea.
