Mr. Jack Watson, a permanent RNLI mechanic, with the Tynesider lifeboat

Mr. Jack Watson, a permanent RNLI mechanic, with the Tynesider lifeboat. The Tynesider, launched 1947, is the oldest Lifeboat in regular service at an RNLI station, but is bowing out soon, after 30 years of service. She will be replaced in the spring, by the Princess Alexandra of Kent which is five feet longer than the Tyneside and has more modern radar equipment.

Launched 153 times, saving 140 lives.
1979 ? 1983 : Transferred to the Reserve Fleet, launched 8 times without saving life.
Currently at Iron Wharf Boatyard, Faversham, Kent
